Hawkins je jedno z mnoha idylických městeček v Indianě. Čisté, pěkné, spořádané. Jediný, kdo to tu nemá rád, je Eddie Munson. Hawkinskou střední školu ale naštěstí dokončí už za pár měsíců a tu chvíli to tady ještě nějak přežije – má přece svůj Klub pekelného ohně a svou metalovou kapelu.Eddie ovšem potkává Paige, které se podařil zázrak – utekla z Hawkins a našla si práci v Los Angeles. Navíc je jediná, kdo v něm nevidí ztroskotance a člověka, s nímž jsou a vždycky budou jen problémy, nýbrž hudebníka, z něhož by se mohla stát hvězda. A Paige mu tu šanci opravdu nabídne – pracuje totiž pro hudební vydavatelství, a tak ho přemluví, aby se svou kapelou Zkorodovaná rakev nahrál demo a poslal ho jejímu šéfovi.Jenže každá legrace něco stojí a Eddie nemá žádné peníze. Když se mu proto do života nečekaně vrátí táta a nabídne mu „prácičku“, plácne si s ním. Tuší, že na několikrát trestaného Ala Munsona by se spolehl jen hlupák, ale je to jediný způsob, jak si může splnit své sny. Pokud to vyjde, bude odtud konečně moct odejít a stane se profesionálním hudebníkem. A pokud ne, bude mrtvý dřív, než si to stihne začít vyčítat.
